Climate-Smart Agriculture & Agroforestry

At Trees for Uganda, we are dedicated to promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) and Agroforestry as effective, science-based solutions that not only enhance food security but also play a vital role in restoring degraded landscapes. Our initiatives aim to bolster household resilience against the impacts of climate shocks, ensuring that communities are better equipped to adapt to changing environmental conditions. By integrating these sustainable practices, we contribute to the long-term health of both the land and the people who rely on it for their livelihoods.

Rice Growing & Value Addition

We empower agriculture through rice production and value addition, creating jobs, reducing post-harvest losses, and delivering quality food products to communities.

Why Value Addition Matters

  • Higher selling price compared to raw paddy
  • Longer shelf life
  • Access to better markets
  • Job Creation in processing and packaging

Small-Scale Milling

In places like Uganda, combining farming with small-scale milling and branding (even at village level) can significantly boost profits. Many farmers earn 2 - 3 times more after value addition

Vegetables/Passion Fruits

Northern Uganda - especially Amuru, Omoro, Nwoyo and Gulu Districts has conditions that are quite favorable for both vegetables and passion fruits, but you need to adjust for long dry spells and high heat.

Why you should grow vegetables and passion fruits

Daily Food Security/Income

  • In a regions with unpredictable income, this is a big advantage.
  • Give fast cash flow, unlike long-term crops
  • You can harvest and sell regularly
  • High demand in local markets
  • Small land requirement

Bottom Line

Growing vegetables and passion fruits is not just farming - it's a reliable way to improve income, nutrition, and resilience, especially in Northern Uganda.
